What is Frog Zone?
Frog Zone is a project initiated by Centre for Environment Education - Australia Inc. (CEE) to establish wetland sites in school environments across Australia. CEE is a not for profit association dedicated to the development and implementation of innovative environmental education, communication and action programs. Frog Zone sites enhance the school grounds and local environment and can become a functional education focus for the whole school.
Wetlands and smaller ponds provide essential habitats for a variety of flora and fauna including frogs, many of which are now threatened due to loss of habitat. School grounds are ideal areas for the creation of smaller wetland areas which many frogs prefer.
What can Frog Zone offer?
A special school environmental package has been developed, including teaching strategies and curriculum links to support schools in the development or rehabilitation of model wetland habitats in school grounds. The project initially began within eight pilot schools in the States of NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and the Northern Territory and is expanding to encourage a greater number of schools to become involved.
